TraumaScore reports data. It does not make diagnoses, and it cannot tell you whether you have a concussion or any other injury.
Not a medical device
TraumaScore is a general wellness product. It has not been reviewed, cleared, or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any other regulatory body. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition, including concussion, traumatic brain injury, or any other injury.
Do not use it to make injury decisions on your own
A TraumaScore reading is one data point about a protein found in many kinds of tissue. S100B rises after ordinary exercise as well as after injury, so a high reading does not mean you are injured and a normal reading does not mean you are not. In particular:
- A normal or low reading does not clear anyone to return to play. Do not treat it as evidence that an injury has resolved.
- A reading is not a substitute for evaluation by a physician, athletic trainer, or other qualified healthcare professional, or for your organization's concussion and return-to-play protocol.
- Never delay seeking care, or disregard advice you have already been given, because of something you saw in this app.
Head injuries are a medical emergency
If you suspect a serious head or neck injury — loss of consciousness, worsening headache, repeated vomiting, seizure, weakness or numbness, slurred speech, confusion, or unequal pupils — seek emergency medical care immediately. In the United States, call 911. Do not use TraumaScore to decide whether an emergency is real.
Development status
TraumaScore is under active development and has not completed clinical validation. Measurements, scores, and trends shown in the app may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unavailable, and the underlying methods may change.
